According to the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Enterprises, domestic mechanical component manufacturing enterprises have quite good capacity in a number of fields such as: Molds of all kinds, mechanical components, electric cables, plastic components, rubber technical rubber... In addition, the demand of the supporting industry market is very large, so many businesses have boldly invested to improve production capacity, focusing on developing quality product lines to serve customers. foreign direct investment enterprises, aiming at exporting products mechanical.
Currently, domestically produced metal components have met 85 - 90% of demand for motorbike production; about 15 - 40% of the demand for components for automobile production (depending on vehicle type), about 20% for synchronous equipment production and 40 - 60% for the production of agricultural machines, engines and 40% for construction machines. Supplying metal components to high-tech industries currently meets about 10% of demand. Domestically, there are pioneering enterprises developing supporting industries such as Truong Hai Industrial Group Company - Thaco Industries in Thaco Chu Lai Industrial Park, Quang Nam. Thaco Industries produces many mechanical products to serve life such as agricultural machinery, water supply and drainage pipes, water tanks, auto parts and components...
However, industrial products supporting the mechanical engineering industry are mainly details, components, and metal assemblies for downstream industries. Vietnam currently has over 500 enterprises producing metal components to supply downstream industries, accounting for a very small proportion of the country's more than 7,000 mechanical enterprises. The quality of industrial products supporting the mechanical engineering industry of some domestic enterprises is still low, production costs are high, so they lack competitiveness. In addition, there is a lack of many large, international mechanical enterprises that play a leading role.
To develop supporting industries for the mechanical engineering industry, according to the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Businesses, it is necessary to have an output support program by connecting with potential buyers of each industry; Incentives for current medium-sized supporting industry companies to invest in expanding production, human resource training, financial support... At the same time, helping businesses have more access to new technology; Consider equality of investment incentives between domestic mechanical enterprises and FDI enterprises. In addition, the state should also create many orders, including orders for industrial products to support Vietnamese mechanical enterprises, especially public investment projects.
According to the Department of Industry (Ministry of Industry and Trade), there are about 25,000 active mechanical enterprises, accounting for nearly 30% of the total number of processing and manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam and concentrated in three sub-sectors, including motorbikes. and motorbike spare parts and components; household mechanics and tools; automobiles and auto parts. These three sub-sectors account for nearly 70% of the total industrial production value of mechanical engineering nationwide.
The domestic mechanical engineering industry has gradually mastered and improved the localization rate; creating motivation to promote the development of other industries and economies, thereby directly and indirectly creating jobs for millions of workers. However, currently Vietnam's mechanical engineering industry only meets about one-third of the domestic demand for mechanical products. Experts assess that with a population of 100 million people, most of whom are young, Vietnam has the potential to become the leading mechanical industry center in Southeast Asia. This will contribute to GDP growth. And Thailand's lesson is said by many experts to be an inspiration for Vietnam to rise up, develop the mechanical industry, and move towards exporting. Vietnam is considered a country that converges many factors to develop a strong mechanical industry.
In recent years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promoted the operational efficiency of the two Technical Centers to support industrial development in the North and the South to support mechanical and industrial enterprises in supporting management system training. production, business management system, improving capacity to meet international standards. However, to promote the development of the mechanical component manufacturing sector, the state needs to have strong policies to encourage the development of production of manufacturing materials; Choosing to focus on developing downstream industries along with encouraging the development of supporting industries for those areas.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to strongly develop downstream industries, including a number of industries such as the energy industry, precision mechanical industries, and mechanical manufacturing to ensure that supporting industries have development conditions, attracting multinational corporations to invest in large-scale projects in Vietnam.
