Next month, a major trade exhibition will take place in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of 800 booths, with foreign businesses from China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan dominating. According to Mr. Nguyễn Khắc Luận, Chairman of Vinexad, domestic companies, especially those in the mechanical engineering sector, primarily participate as visitors rather than exhibitors.

Mr. Đỗ Phước Tống, Chairman of Yusson, stated that Vietnamese mechanical companies face numerous challenges in the domestic market. They struggle with unfair competition from foreign direct investment (FDI) companies and unfavorable tax policies. For example, the import tax on production components is higher than the tax on fully assembled machinery, making it more difficult for local companies to invest and manufacture domestically.

These domestic challenges have led many Vietnamese mechanical companies to shift focus toward export processing orders. According to Mr. Tống, participating in the global supply chain helps companies achieve better business efficiency and reduces competition compared to serving domestic FDI companies.

However, Vietnamese mechanical companies still wish to grow at home. The Yusson Association is planning to organize a dedicated exhibition for the Vietnamese mechanical engineering sector next year, as well as establish a combat robot manufacturing club to provide opportunities for businesses and students to showcase their talents.

These efforts are hoped to help the Vietnamese mechanical industry overcome difficulties, assert its position, and shine in the domestic market.
